Ultraviolet drove the design of our first products as a company back in 2004 with the Countertop UV Sanitizer, and with many great changes this year, we feel an affinity to PANTONE®’s description of the color in the limelight: “Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.” That’s how we feel, having taken this year as an opportunity stretch our design muscles, and bring to life the feedback from our customers – one may even call it Purple Passion, like one of our best-seller Slim Sonic toothbrushes.
PANTONE® describes Ultra Violet as “complex and contemplative,” inspiring “the discoveries beyond where we are now.” This poetic description echoes how this color has fed our innovative products and designs, and parallels our excitement for the future. The cosmic energy that the color suggests is put to use in our Sanitizers, powerfully and effectively eradicating microscopic cosmos.
Other than a beautiful and enigmatic color, ultraviolet is a fascinating type of electromagnetic radiation (think: radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, X-rays and gamma-rays as other designations). Its frequency lies between visible light and and X-rays, allowing objects that absorb UV to fluoresce, and adding some extra powers to it that visible light doesn’t possess.
UV radiation’s effect on matter is powerful because it has enough energy to break chemical bonds. For this reason, UV causes chemical properties of atoms to change and if you’re a tiny (but dangerous) E. Coli bacteria running around on a toothbrush, you don’t stand a chance under those powerful rays.
While we at Violife use UV to keep your toothbrushes clean, at home or on the go as with our UV Travel Sanitizer, recent studies suggest that UV may have played a vital role in the origin of life on Earth. UV light is needed in the formation of RNA, and just like DNA, this is crucial for any form of life to exist.
Whether we are looking at Ultra Violet as a color, or UV radiation as force of physics, these are some inspiring and powerful qualities, and we are lucky to be able to use them to advance oral care.
